Hello, my fellow dues paying members of ASPEP, I hope this reaches you in good health. If you are reading this that means you care about the future of ASPEP. Just like me. This is why I am seeking your support to fill the vacancy of the ASPEP LM Membership Chairperson position.
The past decade has been a roll coaster, not only for our union, but the labor landscape across the country. With many corporation striping away benefits, it is for important employees to stick together and ensure our voices are heard. This is one of ASPEP’s main goals. “To protect and achieve improved conditions of employment compensation and benefits for its members..” (ASPEP By-Laws 1.3). While on the LM negotiations committee in 2023 I did just that. Working with the rest of our team we made sure that our health benefits and vacation hours were not reduced. I also directly contributed by pushing to get a salary adjustment that correlated with the high inflation we’ve seen in 2022 and was able to get an increase for the first year of the contract for everyone.
Now that is some of what I’ve done so far, but I want to continue advocating for you. As membership chair one of my first priorities will be to communicate with all the council representatives and as many members as I can. This will allow me to understand what we as ASPEP should prioritize for our members, as well as improve communication from the E-board to each member. My second goal is to increase our membership numbers. For this goal, I will host meet ups to get the word of ASPEP to as many individuals as we can to help them understand the importance of having strength in numbers. The more we are united, the better we will be!
